I'd say that this show is a lot more gritty and solumn than the ones we have watched in class, the crimes are a lot more 'messed up' and dark compared to the others I have watched, which is why Sir didn't reccomend watching this particular one in class. (Even though it's the best one!)
In the episode I just watched, there was a man who had already killed 4 women, who were mothers of children who went to primary school. He was a single parent, and would use his son to lure in the women that he killed. When the episode starts, there is a flashback of the fourth woman he was about to kill, the whole scene was done in red, which I believe was done because red can connotate blood, and evil.
The first scene, is the team in a consuling room who have just found out he has murdered this woman, and there are 3 other women whos bodies have been dumped in near-by and similar places to this woman. Not only did they have that in common, but their hearts were also cut out of them and were no where to be found. Penelope puts the pictures of where the latest murder is, and the picture is zoomed into, where it then transitions into the crime scene where they investigate.
Afterwards, the location in a childrens clothes shop, where the criminal's son walks up to a woman and tells her that he is lost, the child is no older than 8 years old and he takes her into the back of the store, where his Dad is waiting. The child says 'i'm sorry for tricking you', where the camera then pans to the left slowly whre his Dad is standing, and the Dad then holds a knife to the woman.
Shortly after the team are in a big office, where they have bee informed about a woman who has been abducted (the woman in the store) she is married and also has a child of the age of three.
Back at the criminals house, there are close up shots of see through containers which contain the hearts of the women he had murdered, the camera slowly pans to the right showing all of the containers. The woman is tied up and is crying, he unties her and tells her to go downstairs and be nice to his son. She asks his son what he is doing, and he replies that he is doing homework as extra credit for his class, and he is much futher ahead than the rest of his class, she offers to help with his sons homework, but the criminal shouts ''HE HAS TO LEARN TO DO THINGS BY HIMSELF''.
The team find that they have on CCTV the woman talking to the little boy,the team work out that the serial killer is using his own son to lure the women. Which is when they ring Penelope to track down all the primary schools in the area, they visit all the schools and ask for all the files of any troubled children.
The next scene is the child eating his breakfast, where the women being held captive asks if she can have some, he looks down at the table and says ''he's going to kill you, you know.''. Later on he is walking out of school, where his Dad is waiting in his van for him. The son asks if the woman is still at the house, the criminal replies 'yes, but not for long' the son says 'why does she have to leave?' and he replies 'because thats what they all do, they ALL leave.' and he hits his child.
Next, is the team round a table, where they realise they may be trying to find the wrong type of child, Spencer (one of the most intelligent in the team) points out the fact that they could be looking for 'the perfect child', the kind that is on time for school every day, does all his homework and more, stays behind at break and offers to help tidy the classroom because he could be frightened of his father, so the team set to work on all the schools and try and find a student to match this. However, they are interupted with a phone call to say that the woman they had been looking for is dead, and her heart is also missing. This is the 5th murder, so the team decide to up their game and head back to the schools and find this child.
2 memembers of the team are talking to a teacher, and they have tracked down the child. The teacher claims that the little boy is the perfect student, and his dad was diagnosed with a tumour with not long left to live, and his mother left them completely. They ask if they can speak with the child, and they say 'you're too late, the school nurse drived him home an hour ago because he wasn't feeling well' the scene then flashes back into the school nurse outside the boys home saying 'i'll talk to your dad and tell him whats happened' she walks into the house and the little boy locks the door behind them. The team track down where they live, and one of the team decide that she will pretend to be a friend of the Dads, so the little boy will let her in the house. So she does this, and she is inside the house, she goes into the basement where the Dad is keeping the school nurse and he hits her to the floor and takes her gun, the little boy comes in very frightened and the dad gives the gun to his son and tells him to pull the trigger at the detective. The camera zooms into the gun face on, to give a threatening effect on the audience. The detective presses a button which alarms all the team where they all force entry into the house, this is done at a very fast pace. They untie the school nurse and help the detective up, they tell the little boy to put the gun down, which he does. One of the team handcuff the criminal and say 'you know you're dying, why would you want this to be the last thing your son remembers?' he replied 'they all deserved it' and he said 'well you can tell that to the court' the criminal says 'ill be dead before then' which the dective replies 'good.' The criminal was very physcololgically damaged by what his wife did to him, so he decided to take out his anger on killing these women. This was his motive.
